21 Wapping Lane is the first development of its kind to
be built in the area for over a decade.

Wapping is a fantastic part of London to live in, with great connections to the rest of the city. The challenge was how to get prospective homeowners who may have never considered the area before - to believe it could be right for them?

THE ART OF PLACEMAKING

The development of the identity for the scheme was the opportunity to educate people about the area and the culture it has today, putting Wapping ‘on the map’ within the context of the capital.

In-depth research uncovered layers of stories about the area, from the first settlement in 600AD, through to Captain Kidd’s execution, Brunel opening the Thames tunnel, the Blitz and the regeneration today. These stories were important to tell, as they helped to contextualise the area in London’s history.

The identity for the scheme needed to feel modern and cool - but not ’new’ or shallow. Use of the wood combined with the steel provided an aesthetic that feels worn and weathered, but still contemporary.
